Lakmali (Laki) De Soyza passed away peacefully on September 13th, 2018. She was the beloved daughter of Leslie and Sitha De Soyza, loving Sister of Sajji Nelowet and Lalin De Soyza and aunt of Alex Nelowet and Lucas De Soyza, and loving Sister-in- law of Heather De Soyza. Laki was an amazing person and an inspiration to everyone she met throughout her life. She was a caring Montessori School Teacher who devoted her life to teaching. She held a two-year Association Montessori International (AMI) teaching diploma. She started her teaching career in Sri Lanka and worked for Belvior College International and Colombo International School for a period of three years. Laki later moved to the United States and worked as a teacher in Los Angeles for a few years, before moving to Dallas to rejoin her family. She continued her teaching career at Redeemer Montessori starting in 1998 where she established herself as a dedicated educator and mentor to her precious students. Laki was a passionate teacher who loved working as a Montessori teacher, especially at Redeemer Montessori. She regarded staff members and parents as her extended family. She also had many creative art hobbies and truly enjoyed caring for animals, especially dogs. Her simplicity, warmth and kind heart were a blessing to everyone who met her. We will miss her dearly. "The senses can only come in contact with something concrete. The abstract is what has to be drawn out" Donations may be given to https://mercyforanimals.org in lieu of flowers. The De Soyza family wishes to thank everyone for their tremendous support throughout this journey.
