Born on April 19, 1964 in St. Louis, MO and passed away on June 25, 2015 in Dallas, TX. Winston KC Lam was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 19, 1964 to Geraldine and Wing Lam. Growing up in Florissant, Missouri, he was heavily involved in Boy Scouts, attended a segregated school and comforted his family when his young sister KK was diagnosed with Lupus. The experiences of his youth formed him into an open-minded, compassionate, and humble human being. Inspired to be a lawyer from an early age, he pursued a degree in History at Carleton College to prepare himself for law school. After graduation, he side-tracked to Renmin University in China to enhance his ability to speak Chinese. He travelled throughout China and Asia, immersing himself in the daily life of the people and studying the history of his ancestors. Next, KC moved to Edinburgh to work for a time as an Investment Analyst for Ivory and Sime, and became a student of international markets and finance. Returning to the United States, KC attended Cornell Law School, graduating in 1992. In 1993, KC married Paula. They set down roots in Chicago as KC began his legal career at Hopkins & Sutter. KC's continued interest in business management prompted a return to school and he earned his MBA in 2003 from The University of Chicago's Booth School. Because of his family's experience with serious illness, KC focused his career on the healthcare industry. He had a passion to better lives through his work in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, using his legal and business expertise to help grow companies that saved lives. KC's career required that the family move across the country multiple times. His kids, Cuyler, Geralyn and Cameron, often faced new and difficult environments, but KC's steady guidance instilled in them the independence, perseverance, and humility to thrive in any situation. He always supported and encouraged his kids in their activities: loudly cheering at soccer games or swim meets and happily attending many campouts. KC was always his kids' #1 fan. In January 2014, KC was diagnosed with lung cancer. He took time off to regain strength and was successful for over a year. With reignited inspiration to make a difference for oncology patients, KC found an opportunity in Cambridge, Massachusetts as General Counsel of Infinity Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company focused on therapies for lymphoma and leukemia. Soon after beginning his new position, his cancer unexpectedly recurred and aggressively spread. Despite this, KC never gave up hope and continued to persevere through the pain, never letting the cancer define him. He lived life fully until he passed away peacefully on June 25. KC's dedication to his wife and kids showed in every decision he made and how he conducted himself. He enjoyed the simplicity of just spending time with his family. He had an infectious charm and dynamic personality that put others at ease and made him a great husband, father, and friend. He was a strength and inspiration for many people. His presence, laughter, and love will be deeply missed. KC's Celebration Service Saturday July 11, 2015 at 11am at Central Congregational Church 5600 Royal Lane Dallas, TX 75229.
