Larry Charles Neil passed away peacefully in his 89th year on March 17, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in White Earth, North Dakota to Charles and Ilein Neil, Larry lived in various states as a child until they eventually settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After graduating high school, he served four years in the Marine Corps stationed in Japan and Korea, and attained the rank of Sergeant. Larry then moved west where he studied Political Science at USC and received his degree from Cal State. A born salesman, he sold magazines, records, and cars to the stars. In 1962, while working in LA, he met the love of his life at the corner of Hollywood and Vine. Larry and Cathy made a fantastic team for 62 years. He thrived in his 30-year sales career in Dallas, Texas with Moore Business Forms and in 1994 he hung up his briefcase while he was still at the top of his game. Still being able to draw a retirement check in 2024 was a source of great satisfaction for him. He credited college, the USMC, the Masons and Alcoholics Anonymous as foundational influences on his life and outlook. His family remains convinced that without AA he would not have been able to enjoy his life and his family for the last 39 years. Pre-deceased by his parents, he leaves behind his wife Catherine, his daughter Lynn Preston and her husband Larry, his son Michael and his wife Leah, and his son Doug and his wife Andrea. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren (Jamie, Jenni, Ashley, Thomas, Samantha, Kadence, Tristyn, and Rachel) and nine great-grandchildren. He was much loved and will be much missed. Larry served as Deacon at the church he loved so much, St. Barnabas Presbyterian in Richardson. He enjoyed fishing, travel, a good barbeque and studying the financial markets. He was highly competitive in many aspects of his life, but he was kind, generous, and wickedly funny. The fact that he is also a two-time Fantasy Football Champion will remain a source of some chagrin for years to come.
There will be a Memorial Service that gives witness to the resurrection and celebrates the life of Larry Neil on Saturday, March 30th at 2:00 PM in the sanctuary at St. Barnabas Presbyterian Church, Richardson, TX. The service will be live streamed at https://saintb.online.church/
