Obituary

EDWARD DAVIS LESTER, 85, of Plano, passed away peacefully at his home on January 30, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. He was born May 3, 1932 in Topeka, Kansas. His parents, Harry Cecil Lester and Eva Mae Murphy Lester, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty, and four children; Amy L. Dickerson (Brit), Wylie, TX; Jill D. Korbelic, Allen, TX; Lori A. Stephenson, Plano, TX; and Bryce E. Lester (Bethany), McKinney, TX; his brother, Harry C. Lester (Ann), Overland Park, KS., and brother-in-law, Charles E. Worthington (Helen) of Topeka, KS. Grandsons, Raymond Sean Stephens (Kristi), Prosper, TX; Joshua L. Acord, (Cassandra), Ann Arbor, MI; Neill G. Korbelic (Constance), Wylie, TX, and Mason D. Lester, McKinney, TX . He is also survived by five great grandchildren, Vaughan and Regan Stephens, Kaysen, Jocelyn and Cooper Acord, several cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as extended family members, Raymond Stephens (Cheryl), Jennifer Carter, Greyson and Ashton; Chris Stephens (Teresa), Caitlin and Emily; and Ashlee Andrews. Special blessings in his life were his two very caring and attentive caregivers, as well as the services and caring staff of Hospice Plus. Mr. Lester was a veteran of the Korean War, serving four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Sicily. He graduated from Kansas University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and worked in the Aerospace industry at Boeing in Seattle, WA, North American (Autonetics) in Downey, CA and retiring in 1991 from Texas Instruments in Dallas, TX,. as a senior member of the Technical Staff. Retirement years were spent in traveling, square dancing with the Swingin' Saints, and with the help of his son-in-law, Greg Korbelic, filling in the swimming pool and restoring it as a Japanese water garden and remodeling several rooms in the home. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at the First United Methodist Church Plano, 3160 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, TX on February 10, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Grantville Cemetery, Grantville, KS.
