Linnea Suzanne
Dillard
Aug 1, 1935 — Nov 29, 2025
Linnea Suzanne "Sue" Dillard passed away peacefully on November 29, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, learning, and service. Affectionately known as Sue, she was a woman whose compassion and quiet strength shaped the lives of her family, her students, and her community.
Born in Galveston, Texas, Sue moved to Austin as a young child, a place that nurtured her curiosity and love of learning. She attended The University of Texas, where she met the love of her life, Joe Dillard. Sue graduated with honors as a proud member of Phi Beta Kappa, and her pursuit of excellence continued as she earned her master's degree from Southern Methodist University while teaching full time.
Sue spent 35 years in public education as a junior high teacher, where her gift for connecting with young people made her a beloved figure in the classroom. She guided students through some of their most formative years, offering patience, encouragement, and steady support. To many, she was not just a teacher, but a mentor who helped them see their own potential.
Her dedication to young people extended far beyond the school walls. Sue volunteered with the Trinity River Mission, mentoring 7th and 8th graders and investing deeply in their growth and confidence. She was also active in her faith community, especially at First Methodist of Lindale, where she offered her time, warmth, and unwavering belief in service to others.
Though she was proud of her accomplishments, Sue's most treasured roles were those of mother and wife. Her gentle spirit, her commitment to helping others, and her lifelong devotion to education and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Sue is survived by her husband of 67 years, Joe Dillard, and her daughter, Cara Arnold. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to a charity of your choice that supports the education and well-being of children—an enduring reflection of Sue's devotion to young people.
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." — Romans 8:28
