John Logan was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, to Ethel Caldwell and Dan Polk Logan, Sr, both of whom predeceased him. He was raised in Gilliam, Louisiana, on the family cotton farm, and learned every aspect of farming; including plowing behind a mule. After graduation from North Caddo High School in 1958, John earned a degree in Business Agriculture from LSU, where he was a member of ROTC and Sigma Chi Fraternity. He entered the U.S. Army and was based in Ft. Rucker in Alabama. After his honorable discharge, Second Lieutenant Logan moved to Dallas, joined Braniff Airlines, and began his wonderful career in commercial aviation. He flew a number of different planes for Braniff, including the Concorde, and he developed many deep and meaningful friendships with Braniff colleagues: friendships which he cherished throughout his life. After Braniff closed in bankruptcy, John joined many of his friends at Piedmont Airlines, and eventually retired in 2000 with US Airways. An ordained Ruling Elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA), John served Grace Presbytery in the area of New Church Development. With his wife, the Rev. Dr. Cynthia Weeks Logan, John served three Presbyterian congregations in the Dallas area: Oak Cliff (5 years), Preston Hollow (8 years), and First Dallas (17 years). He helped to organize golf tournaments, served at The Stewpot, delighted in being confirmation partner for several young men, taught Sunday School, helped with Habitat for Humanity and participated in many other service projects which have improved the quality of life of many persons in the Dallas area and beyond. John was an avid golfer with four hole-in-ones during his years of playing. One of his greatest joys was teaching his sons to play, and with them enjoying golf courses everywhere from Charlotte and Hilton Head, to Hawaii, to St. Andrews, Scotland. Some of his dearest friends are golf buddies. Once a friend of John's, always a friend of John's. He stayed in touch with friends from North Caddo High School, participating in reunions. He cherished his Sigma Chi brothers and thoroughly enjoyed the Gamma Iota reunions. He maintained friendships with people who were his neighbors forty years ago. John is survived by his beloved wife Cynthia, and his sons Kevin (Stephanie) and Colby (Rachel). He is especially proud of his grandchildren: Jackson, Rowan, Nash, Emerson, Finn, Jacob, Micah, and Zoe. He was blessed to have the finest brother in the world, Dan Logan, Jr. (Karen), and nieces Susan Huffman (John) and Beth Woods (Ben) and nephew Stephen Logan (Jann), and all their children: Caldwell and John Walker Huffman; Logan, Tanner, and Michael Woods; and Emily and Taylor Logan. Also he is survived by beloved cousins and their families, and close, dear friends. Due to renovation of the First Presbyterian sanctuary, a memorial service and witness to the resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 20, at 2:00 in the sanctuary of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church of Dallas, at Preston Rd and Walnut Hill. John's family expresses gratitude to Faith Hospice for their wonderful care, and to Home Instead for their guidance and care for the past year.
