Louis David
Helwick
Nov 26, 1946 — May 14, 2025
Louis David "Dave" Helwick, loving husband, brother, stepfather, and grandfather passed away on May 14, 2025.
Dave was born on November 26, 1946, in Akron, Ohio, to Louis Jacob and Jane Elizabeth Watterson Helwick. During his youth, Dave's activities and family vacations engendered a passion for history and reading, thirst for knowledge, and love of travel. Dave was an accountant with several firms before enjoying retirement.
In 1991, Dave married his beloved wife, Kathy, with whom he shared more than 34 years of adventures and laughter. He embraced his new family and thoroughly enjoyed the many activities and holidays spent with them. Known as Papa, Dave was especially proud of his six grandchildren and their many accomplishments and loved to share news of them with others.
Serving others was central to Dave's life. As a lifelong Episcopalian, Dave served as an acolyte, acolyte trainer, Lay Eucharistic Minister (LEM), and volunteer in outreach ministries, particularly Now-Forward, formerly known as North Dallas Shared Ministries. He had a unique ability to find common interests with others, including travelers at DFW Airport where he served as an Airport Ambassador. Through the years, Dave participated in a German club and the Good Sam RV Club and served on the Country Place Board of Directors.
Dave is survived by his sister, Kathy Fielder; his sister-in-law, Peggy (Ronnie) Barnes; and the Lambrecht and Chapman families: Charlyn (Greg) Lambrecht and Ron (Beth) Chapman, Jr., and their children, Caleb (Joy) Lambrecht, Brianna Lambrecht, Eleanor Chapman, Brayden Lambrecht, Abby Chapman, and Kendall Lambrecht.
Dave will be remembered by those who knew him as a good and kind man of deep faith, dedicated to helping others. Now at peace, he has joined his beloved Kathy, his parents, and dear relatives who predeceased him.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 20, at 10:00 am at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, 11122 Midway Rd., Dallas, TX 75229, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Dave to Now-Forward, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides food, clothing, and financial, medical, dental, and mental health services to Dallas-area residents, at https://now-forward.org/. Please note on the giving page that your donation is in memory of Dave.
