Obituary

With her daughter by her side, June Day Lovejoy passed away peacefully in Plano, Texas, on Saturday, July 6, 2019 after many years of declining health. She was born Flora June Day on Sunday, June 21, 1931, to Margaret Louverna Welch and Carl Lewis Day. Raised in Alice, Texas until her high school graduation in 1948, she attended the all-girls Blue Mountain College in Mississippi and later, Texas A & I University in Kingsville. In 1951, she went to work for Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio until her marriage to Edwin Seale Ellis, an Air Force pilot, in 1952. Ed and June had two sons: Robert Edwin "Bob" and Charles Andrew "Andy." Tragically, Ed was killed in a plane crash in 1954 and June was widowed at age 23 with two babies: Andy only two weeks old and Bob just 20 months old. June moved to Memphis to be close to family and began a modeling career which provided her with flexible hours while raising her two young boys. In 1958, June married Dr. William "Bill" Mathew Lovejoy, a pediatrician in Memphis, Tennessee. Three years later, their daughter, June Carol, was born. After years in pediatrics, Bill went back to medical school to complete a residency/fellowship in psychiatry and they moved to St. Louis so he could attend Washington University. June got her real estate license to help support the family while Bill was in school. After his training ended in 1970, they moved to Dallas and June continued to sell real estate while Bill grew his psychiatric practice. They made many friends at First Baptist, Dallas, and later at Richardson Heights Baptist, Richardson, where they taught Sunday School and held various leadership positions. June was widowed again in 1982 when Bill died suddenly during heart bypass surgery. After Bill's death, June was active at Prestonwood Baptist Church and volunteered for years at the Prestonwood Pregnancy Center. June was an avid reader and was an extremely creative person - sewing her daughter's clothes when she was young, making the drapes and dcor in their homes, and she made all of Bill's ties and gifted many to their friends. She also enjoyed decoupage, ceramics, needlepoint, and making beautiful jewelry that she loved to gift to friends and family. An accomplished cook, she was well-known for her elegant dinner parties and southern hospitality. June is predeceased by her parents, her sister, Doris, her first husband, Ed Ellis, her second husband, Bill, and many friends and relatives that she dearly loved and missed, especially Howard Bechthold. She is survived by her daughter, June Deibel (Jim) of Plano, and her sons, Bob Lovejoy of Galesburg, Illinois, and Andy Lovejoy (Diane), of Rockwall, and her six grandchildren: Cassidy Lovejoy (Peyton Ker), Cody Lovejoy, JC Lovejoy, and James, Jr., Cera, and Katie Deibel as well as two great-grandsons. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend, Alice Ann Bacon of Kerrville, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 9, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Prestonwood Baptist Church, 6801 W. Park Blvd, Plano with a reception afterwards. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
