Obituary

Donna Fay Ritchie Luhks passed away on February 13, 2018 in Dallas TX at the age of 77. Fay was the daughter of the late Douglas Ritchie and Marjorie Ritchie of Lockport. In addition to her parents, Fay was preceded in death by her two brothers Douglas "Bryan" Ritchie of Thibodeaux and William "Bill" Ritchie of Mandeville, her niece, Cathy Ritchie, her first husband, W.H. "Jack" Jackson Jr, and her second husband, Ron Luhks. She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Jackson of Durham NC (partner, Meg, and children, Kiah, Emma, and Leah) and her son, Kyle Jackson of Dallas TX (wife, Roni, and children, Alex and Brody), and several nieces and nephews.

Growing up in Lockport, Fay attended Lockport High School and stayed active in the band, chorus, basketball team, and the pep squad. She won several academic and music awards and scholarships, and was valedictorian of her senior class in 1959.

In college at Northwestern State, Fay was a majorette with the marching band, and a member of the Tri Sigma Sorority and the Potpourri Court, where she was voted most appropriately dressed in 1962. It was at college that Fay met her first husband, Jack. Together they raised 2 children as they moved his dental practice from Houston to El Paso, and then Baton Rouge. Later, Fay rejoined the workforce in computer sales and eventually moved to Houston where she became an avid sailor and met her second husband, Ron.

Fay enjoyed Caribbean sailing vacations with friends, cooking, sewing, gardening, baseball, and flea market shopping. She retired early to care for Ron at home before his death from Alzheimer's. Afterward, Fay took up rowing and became an active volunteer in her community. Several years later, Fay and her beloved dog Sparky moved to Dallas to live closer to her son, Kyle, after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Relatives and friends of Fay are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate her life on March 9, 2018, from 2 to 4pm at 900 Country Club Blvd, Thibodaux, LA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimers Foundation of America at www.alzfdn.org.
