John Alan Lummus, 69, passed away on May 20, 2017 in Dallas. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Gwen Lummus, daughter Heather Adams, grandchildren Blake Savoia and Macie Savioa, sister and brother-in-law Lolana and Foye Thompson, and many other relatives and friends. A native of Harlingen TX and graduate of Harlingen High School, Alan attended the University of Texas at Austin where he earned degrees in law and music. Moving to Dallas he started various businesses, pursuing interests in business consulting, silver mining, software development and internet technology. Alan possessed a curious intellect and a love of learning and was always generous in sharing his knowledge and passion for music, computers and IT. An early adopter of personal computers, he helped hundreds of friends and colleagues learn software and solve their computer problems. He was a long-time member of North Texas PC Users Group and led a special interest group there. Pursuing his passion for social justice, he served on several boards of non-profits, most recently Jericho Road Dallas, Skill QUEST, and Texas UU Justice Ministry. He also set up and maintained websites for many organizations. His love of choral music led him to sing with the Dallas Symphony Chorus for many years, as well as the Plano Civic Chorus, the Temple Emanu-El choir and the Highland Park Presbyterian Church choir. An active member of First Unitarian Church of Dallas, he served on the board of Social Action Council which was also active with Dallas Area Interfaith for many years. As an advisor for the YRUU high school class, he enthusiastically supported their endeavors and travelled with them on many of their service trips. His memorial service will be on Sunday, June 11 at 4 p.m. at First Unitarian Church of Dallas, 4015 Normandy Ave, Dallas, TX 75205.
