Donald Maxson Turner (Mack). Born in Dallas, TX in 1942. Passed peacefully December 2022. Survived by wife Catherine (Cat), sons Jeff & Don Turner, stepchildren Doug Erwin & Emily Raney, their four mates, 8 grandsons, sister Nancy Christy & many more beloved cousins, nieces, nephews.
As a child, Mack found his love of nature while exploring Turtle Creek. He played basketball in HPHS & TN's McCallie schools. After OU, Mack began his career in commercial real estate. In 1986, he joined DART as Real Estate Director, serving in subsequent positions for 30+ years
His love of fishing took him from E. TX lakes to Brazil's Amazon River. As past president of two Fishing Clubs, he was instrumental in creating world-class fisheries in both.
When a proposed strip mine would cut his fishing lake's water source & destroy acres of habitat, Mack called Ned Fritz, founder of what would become TX Conservation Alliance (TCA), the mining plan was stopped. Mack was named Air and Water Conservationist of the Year by Sportsmen Conservationists of TX for his efforts.
Since 2007, Mack served as Board Chair for TCA & 10 years on Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept.s State Parks Advisory Committee. In 2014, National Wildlife Federation awarded him their prestigious Charlie Shaw Award.
A memorial service will be held at Ridgewood UMC on January 22, 2023 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please support TCA, P.O. Box 822554, Dallas, TX 75382.
