In Loving Memory of Mario Dharmesh Sabaratnam

January 5, 1985 – July 1, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Mario Dharmesh Sabaratnam, who left us on July 1, 2025, at the young age of 40, after a courageous and dignified battle with colon cancer. Dharmesh faced this final chapter of his life with strength, grace, and quiet determination—qualities that defined his life and inspired all who knew him.

Dharmesh was born on January 5, 1985, at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Kollupitiya, Colombo on the beautiful island of Sri Lanka. At the age of four, he moved with his family to London, beginning a life shaped by resilience, adaptability, and global perspective. Five years later, the family settled in Maryland, USA, where Dharmesh spent his formative years and graduated from High Point High School.

As a child, Dharmesh enjoyed serving as an altar boy, especially at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., where he honored the legacy of the Our Lady of Good Health of Velankanni from Tamil Nadu, India. His deep spiritual roots remained with him throughout his life. As a young man, he proudly supported the India Catholic Association of America, continuing his commitment to faith and community. He was so faithful and loving he would have virtual prayers conducted by his friends who were priests for his family when they were ill.

Dharmesh continued his education at the University of Maryland and later earned a certificate from the X-Ray Academy of Texas as a non-certified radiologic technician, pursuing his interests with dedication and pride. Dharmesh also successfully completed the Student Leadership Institute at North Lake College, Dallas County Community College. Dharmesh went on to work at Dulles International Airport. A role that suited his love of travel and people—and later as a medical technician in Texas, where he relocated in 2011. Dharmesh also worked at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. In each chapter of his professional life, he brought care, commitment, and a deep sense of responsibility to those he served.

Dharmesh was deeply proud of his Sri Lankan heritage. Born into a Tamil family, he held a profound love for the food, music, and culture of his mother country. Whether it was a song, wild boar curry, or his Auntie Queenie's fish curry, Dharmesh celebrated his roots with joy and reverence. He especially cherished time spent in Sri Lanka and Canada, where vibrant Tamil communities offered a sense of connection and belonging.

Fond of traveling, Dharmesh explored the world with curiosity and wonder—but it was the people in his life who brought him the greatest happiness. He had an extraordinary gift for nurturing relationships, staying closely connected to his extended family and vast circles of friends from every place he lived. His parents remember with pride and affection how he made it a priority to keep in touch, never missing a birthday, celebration, or milestone. He had an uncanny ability to recall the smallest details of time spent with loved ones, and he treasured those memories deeply.

Some of Dharmesh's fondest memories were made at family gatherings—Thanksgivings, Easters, and Christmases spent shoulder to shoulder in a house packed with loved ones, surrounded by a blend of Sri Lankan and American dishes and many glasses of nelli crush. These moments, filled with laughter, music, and shared stories, were the heartbeat of his life. He relished the Fourth of July, when he would gather friends and family for barbeque, fun, and a slightly over-the-top—but always memorable—arsenal of fireworks.

Dharmesh loved to remind us all of the "good old days." He would recall shared stories and small moments that some of us had long forgotten. At the time, we might have paused and smiled, not realizing the gift he was giving us. In hindsight, it's clear that this was one of Dharmesh's quiet but profound roles in our lives—to be the keeper of memory, the one who helped us hold on to what truly matters. His life, though far too short, was filled with meaning, and his ability to make us feel remembered, connected, and loved is a legacy we will carry forward always.

Dharmesh was also a devoted animal lover. He found comfort and companionship in his beloved dog, Raja, and his two parrots, whose vibrant presence brought him joy and laughter. His gentle care for his pets reflected the kindness and affection he showed to all living beings.

Dharmesh is survived by his loving parents, Sarah Doreen (née Thambinayagam) Sabaratnam and Vijayan Sabaratnam, who stood by him with unwavering love and strength throughout his life. He also leaves behind a large and devoted extended family—so many cherished aunties, uncles, and cousins, more than can be named here, each of whom held a special place in his heart and in whose lives his memory will live on.

The wake will be held on Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the North Dallas Funeral Home (2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, TX 75234). The funeral service will take place on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Holy Family of Nazareth Catholic Church (2323 Cheyenne St, Irving, TX 75062). Dharmesh will be cremated in a private ceremony, which will be held on Monday, July 14, 2025.
