Obituary

Marj passed into the hands of the Lord January 2, 2025, in Frisco, Texas, surrounded by family after a struggle with dementia.

She is survived by Russell (son) and Susan (Frisco, TX), Grandchildren Russell (Chicago, IL) and Margaret (Orlando, FL), Eric (son) and Shelley (High Prairie, WA), and William Holub, Jr. (brother) (Wilmington NC).

She was preceded in death by husband Warren (Bud) Swansen, sister Lola Holub, and husband James Simmen.

Marjorie Jane Holub was born in 1931 in Berwyn, Illinois. She graduated from Lake Forest College in 1952, meeting Warren (Bud) Swansen during her studies. They were married in 1957. Marjorie became a Registered Nurse after completing studies at Presbyterian Hospital Chicago. Marj and Bud returned to live in Lake Forest, IL, a community she would call home for 65 years. Marj had many nursing roles, rising to Director of Nursing at Highland Park Hospital, and School Nurse at Lake Forest and Waukegan Schools, until her retirement in 2006. As school nurse, she fostered student's interests as mentor/leader of the innovative Medical Careers Club.

Marj loved the serenity of being surrounded by nature. She spent summers in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where she enjoyed 33 years of long summer days and cool mountain nights. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Forest, singing in the church choir and volunteering at the annual rummage sale. In Jackson Hole she enjoyed spending time at the Senior Center and volunteering at the Jackson Hole & Greater Yellowstone Visitor Center.

The family would like to thank the many wonderful caregivers at Parkview Retirement Community and Medical City Hospital, Frisco, TX for their care and compassion.
