Obituary

Mark Rogers passed away peacefully on March 11, 2025, holding the hand of his loving friend Cathy and with his dog Summer lying by his side. He was born on May 19, 1959, in Belleville, Illinois to Malcolm and Catherine JoAnne Rogers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Malcolm Rogers, Jr., and Catherine JoAnne Martin, brother Michael William, and by his dear friends Ira Gross and Jeff Cooke. He is survived by sons Michael Rogers, Matthew Rogers, and Christopher Rogers, all of Dallas, Texas; sister Anne Shoemaker and husband Paul Shoemaker; nieces Elizabeth Pratt, Rebecca Pratt, and Faith Shoemaker; nephew Machaon Shoemaker; great nephews Carter Stratton and Cy Morales, all of Carlsbad, New Mexico; Aunt Nancy Rogers of Springfield, Illinois; Uncle John Rogers of Chicago, Illinois; and by his precious and beloved dog, Summer.

Mark and his family moved to Tucson in 1965. After graduating from Sahuaro High School in 1977, he entered the University of Arizona and quickly found a new family at the Delta Chi Fraternity. Mark graduated from the University of Arizona in 1981 with a business administration degree, specializing in finance and real estate. He then moved to Dallas to launch a very extensive career in property development, asset management, and banking. In the late 1990's, his asset management skills led him into the development and management of student housing projects. As usual with Mark, he did this in a big way focusing on the acquisition and development of more than thirty projects, exercising responsibilities for financing, structuring, negotiating contracts, closing, and overseeing the projects. Mark's immense skills produced extremely lucrative returns for his employers. Not done with exploring yet more property and asset management challenges, Mark's attention turned to reconstruction of 175 affordable housing units in the south part of Austin, Texas, assembling a team of design and finance consultants to produce a highly successful project bringing high end housing quality to very low-income residents – a testament to his concern for those less fortunate than himself. He retained his Texas real estate broker license for many years, and one of his greatest joys was assisting many friends and family members with buying or selling their own homes. These interests and career opportunities enabled him to travel extensively and to make life-long friends wherever he went.

Mark enjoyed a wonderful and successful life, filled with many special moments with family and friends. He was a great father, brother, and friend. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.

He leaves behind many dear and special friends: Cathy Cavendish, Bob and Lisa Barnitt, Lisa Gross, Bob Sundius, Cecelia McAdam, Stella Koliopoulos, Bob DeBruin, Warren and Marci Burke, Kathy Keels, Julie Bass, Tanya Little, Kevin and Tryna Knox, Doug Cassel, Jodie and Katie Cox, and many cousins.

Mark was an irresistible force in this world, and he will be deeply missed by his family members and his many friends. May his soul rest in peace.
