Mary Lou
Jordan
Feb 18, 1933 — Jan 27, 2026
Marylou Ivy Jordan, also known as Lulu, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, age
92 passed away in her home on Tuesday, January 27th, 2026, with her daughter by her
side.
She was born on February 18th, 1933, in Fort Worth, Texas to Rassie and Polk Ivy. Polk
was a highway patrolman and moved his family to Dallas, Wichita Falls, and settled in Amarillo
where Marylou started school. She was a popular student, a class president, cheerleader, and
class favorite in her high school years. She went on to attend Amarillo College for a year while
working in the pharmacy at Northwest Texas Hospital. In 1952, she married Robert Amason
and with him welcomed and loved 3 children, Rip, Mendi, and Randy. Being a mother was the
joy of her life. Once her children were all in school, she continued her studies and received her
Bachelor's degree in education from Texas Tech University in 1968. She taught 6th grade at
Mae Murfee Elementary School in Lubbock for several years and was then offered one of the
first positions in LISD as a resource teacher (special education). She had one of the first
designated classrooms in Lubbock to serve children with special needs. She then pursued and
obtain her master's degree in special education from Texas Tech. She left Lubbock in 1974 to
seek a different career path in sales and recruiting.
She married George Hugo in 1979. They
traveled some and she assisted him in his law practice. He passed away in 1987. Vowing to
never remarry, Marylou ended up meeting the "love of her life" Jimmy Jordan. They were
married in 1988. Only her love for God exceeded the love she had for Jimmy. Marylou returned
to teaching in special education in the 1990's and was later awarded Special Education Teacher
of the Year from Alief Independent School District for Teacher of the Year. She retired in 1998
and kept herself busy with bridge, family activities, and traveling with Jimmy.
Marylou was preceded in death by her husband Jimmy, her son Rip, her sister Jo Ann, her
nephew Brian, and her parents.
Survivors include her daughter Mendi Strader, son-in-law Dan Strader, son Randy Amason, and
wife Helen Amason. Grandchildren Aaron Strader and his wife Jennifer Strader, Ashley
Strader, Ryan Amason, Jared Amason and his wife Emily Amason, and Sarah
