Mary Margaret
Morgan
Jun 8, 1938 — Feb 19, 2025
Mary Margaret Morgan, aged 86, died at home on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
Margaret Morgan was born June 8, 1938, in Cary, NC. She attended Meredith College in
Raleigh, NC, initially studying music. Margaret was a gifted pianist and organist and she
played for many churches. However, following in the footsteps of her educator parents, the
late John Andrew Morgan, Sr., and Elsie Farthing Morgan, Margaret changed her studies to
English education.
Margaret started her teaching career in New York, teaching there for five years before
moving to the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area. She gained recognition as a talented English
high school teacher at both public and private schools. Included among them were Lake
Highlands High School, Hockaday Girls' School, and Roosevelt High School.
While teaching, Margaret continued her own education, completing many hours of doctoral
degree work. For many years, she served as Dean Assistant Principal at Thomas Jefferson
High School in Northwest Dallas before completing her calling as an educator as an
Elementary School Administrator at Urban Park Elementary. Margaret loved her students
and used an individualized approach to meeting their needs and helping them succeed.
Margaret is survived by her sister Elizabeth Anne Morgan Goforth and brother James
William Morgan (Carol Ingalls Morgan). Margaret did not have children of her own; however,
she loved her 4 nephews and 3 nieces as though they were hers - Eric Franklin Goforth,
John Andrew Morgan, III, David Morgan (Ann Marie), Michael Morgan (Suzanne), Vicki
Morgan Williams (Don), Karen Goforth Harbin (Chris), and Cathy Morgan Ottomanelli.
Margaret is survived by many grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and
nephews. Margaret may have been an auntie, but to these loved ones, she was more like a
grandparent, visiting when she could, remembering birthdays, sending gifts from her
travels, and showing up for important events. She loved them and took great delight in
following their development and adventures.
Margaret is survived by her chosen adopted family – Joyce Cole, and Jordan, Alana and Roz
Harper, all of whom she cherished, and her dear friends Roney Foil and Irene Case, who
cared for her in times of crisis when family was too far away.
Margaret Morgan was a generous woman who loved to talk, loved to travel, and who deeply
loved her family. She will be missed.
