Mary Carrier Stewart, 92, died in Dallas, TX on June 18, 2022. Born January 10, 1930 in Bridgeport, TX as the 12th and youngest child to parents Eugene Carrier and Bence Avila. She attended school in Nebraska, Minnesota, and Texas and was a migrant worker in the beet fields in those states. She came from humble beginnings and was a coal miner's daughter and lived in a dirt floor home with an outhouse. She was only allowed one piece of paper per week to indulge her love of art and drawing and she used every inch of it. She attended one room schoolhouses and was able to skip a grade by listening in to the upper grades. She graduated from Taft High School in Chicago, IL at age 16. She honed her artistic talent at the Art Institute of Chicago. She married Carl N. Stewart, Jr. on August 1, 1953 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Dallas. They moved to Richardson in 1955 and were founding members of St. Paul's Catholic Church. She was very involved with her church and neighborhood. Her home was open for parties (Halloween was a favorite), weddings (hosted 7 weddings and receptions), and visits (beans were on the stove at the ready). Many experienced her pranks with her favorite holiday, April Fools. Her home was decorated with her paintings and mementos from her travels to 69 countries. She sold hundreds of handmade personalize greeting cards utilizing canceled stamps and enjoyed visiting nursing homes. She was known for her wit, wearing hats, and was a member of All Saints Catholic Church's 7:45am community. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl. She is survived by her children Carla Marie Stewart Boshart and husband Jim and family James and Michaella Boshart, William and Caitlin Boshart, Hannah Irene Boshart , and Christina Rosie Boshart; Paul David Stewart and wife Janete Maria and family Paul, Jr. and Jordan Stewart and Paul, III, Sara and Kyra Stewart and Mya, Chris and Kaili Stewart and Zeplin and Zephyr Stewart; Maria Stewart Rice and family Rachel Diane Rice, Michael and Haley Rice and Jensen and Curtis Rice, Brenda Nicole Rice; Alan Carrier Stewart and wife Wendy and family Ella Mary and Warren Stewart; and Anna Christina Stewart LeBlanc and husband Rick and family Dylan, Amber, and Sean LeBlanc. A rosary will be said at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 720 S. Floyd Road, Richardson, TX 75080 on Friday, July 8 at 10:30am with the funeral Mass to follow at 11:00am. A reception will follow at St. Paul's Parish Center. The family requests no flowers and suggests that flowers be given to individuals in nursing homes. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice or to any adoption agency.
