Obituary

Deaconess Mary Jane Mathieu passed away on March 24, 2017 due to complications resulting from a bilateral stroke. She was 78. Born an only child on August 14, 1938 in St. Paul, Minnesota to George Leonard "Len" and Eleanor Erickson. Mary Jane married Leo George Mathieu on August 14, 1963 after a brief courtship while he was an aspiring Braniff pilot and she was a Northwest Orient stewardess. She spent over 50 years in the Dallas area as a housewife, residential real estate agent, and tireless servant of the Church of the Holy Communion. She led many groups, was the Altar Guild Directress and taught Catechesis at Holy Communion Christian Academy. Mary Jane was a 1981 graduate of the University of Texas at Dallas and was set apart as a Deaconess in the Reformed Episcopal Church in 2008. She cared for her husband until his death in 2001, and her son, Mark, until his death in 2009. She is survived by her daughter Monica Rose Dalton, Director of Holy Communion Christian Academy, of Richardson, TX and her husband James Dalton. She is also survived by her son Miles Laurent Mathieu, a retired USAF Lt. Col., of Colorado Springs, CO and his wife Audrey (Allcorn) Mathieu. "Nana" was an ever-present and loving example in the lives of her seven grandchildren: Brittany, Landry & Abby Dalton and Ainsley, Erickson, Katherine, & Penelope Mathieu. Surviving relatives also include nephews Brian & Michael Robinson of Maine. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 29, from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Aria Funeral Home, 19310 Preston Rd., Dallas, TX, 75252. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 30, at 3 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Communion, 17405 Muirfield Dr., Dallas, TX, 75287 with interment to follow at the Frankford Cemetery adjacent to the church grounds. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Church of the Holy Communion Memorial Fund.
