Rutger Paul McCrum, age 14, died at Childrens Medical Center in Dallas,Texas on May 30th, 2019. Rutger was born November 10th, 2004 and lived in Dallas, Texas his whole life. He was the youngest of 6 children, and was a member of the DFW Church of Christ. Rutger loved life and was most at home with a pizza, a glass of milk, a video game, and slapstick comedy. He did not crave attention, and seemed to be immune to what others thought. He had an honest way of life, where everyone knew who he was and how he felt. If he was not having fun, he just ended up missing! He was very independent and was often found doing his own thing alone away from the group happily entertaining himself or laughing at a joke that only he understood. He was often with his sister Trinity wherever she went, but enjoyed time alone. He did not get caught up with possessions, gossip, and never complained. During his struggle with Brain Cancer, Rutger shocked his family, nursing staff, and even his psychologist on how brave, uncomplaining, unafraid and honest he was with life and with facing his own mortality. Rutger did not have many close friends, but those that were, felt privileged to be in his inner circle. His favorite past time was to go on trips with his dad and sister, listen to BassBoosters, and eat salty food. If there was a soft blanket to be had, Rutger had it, and liked to snuggle with his mom. Our son lived a full life his last year on earth. He took his first flight to the skies in a World War II war-bird and did not get even get sick while flying the iconic plane! He was able to do an Interview with legend Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks, got to see if he still had a six pack on his last year of Pro Ball, and stood center court while being named "Honorary co-captain"! He got to name missiles outfitted on a drone for an overseas mission and received a flag flown by our military in his honor. Rutger was a content child who finished the race with no enemies, a caring family, a few close friends, and no regrets. His life is an example to all, and if you knew him, your life was a little better for it. Rutger is survived by: Father James McCrum, 46, of Plano Texas, Mother Heather McCrum, 47, of Plano Texas and are survived by their five remaining children: Jessica, 30, and Luis Gonzales; and their three children Leah 8, Ellie 6, and Isaias 4, (Garland, TX) Bobby Joe Baker, 28, his wife Selena and their son Aaron (Caldwell, TX) Stephanie, 27, and William Hicks and their son, Tucker Blaylock (Rockdale, TX) Carlos McCrum, 27 (Addison, TX) Trinity McCrum, 16 (Plano, TX) Living Grandparents: Jamie McCrum (Rowlett, Texas) Constance and Henry Torres (Houston, TX) Melvin Davis (Lafayette, In) Dwight & Laurie Caldwell (Pleasonton, Ca) The Memorial service will take place at: CARE Church 1504 East Campbell Rd. Richardson, Texas 75081 Saturday, June 15th from 5-8pm
