Obituary

Gail Chadwick McMinn, 78, passed away on June 2, 2017. Born April 23, 1939 in Longview, Texas to Edna Tarver and Tom Ben Chadwick Sr., Gail moved to Tyler, Texas after 10th grade. She graduated from Tyler High School in 1956 and attended Texas Christian University where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. When Gail moved to Tyler, little did she know she lived a block from the man she would one day marry. A dancer for many years, she had beautiful legs and that's what initially caught Bill's eye. She and Bill married in February 1960. Gail's working career began in Tyler with Humble Oil & Refining (later Exxon). She worked for Humble in Tyler, Dallas and Houston as a secretary in the exploration and legal departments. Her 29-year career in the oil and gas industry also included many wonderful years with General American Oil Company of Texas, later to become Phillips Oil Company. Gail was a loving wife to Bill, having celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary in February. She was devoted to her family and passionate about maintaining friendships. Next to her family, Gail considered her friends to be one of her most treasured gifts. After becoming a full-time homemaker in 1986, Gail's interests included duplicate bridge, genealogy and gardening. When her first granddaughter was born in 1992, she focused on being grandmommie to Elizabeth and later Emily and Sarah. She taught them to play games and cards and according to her, never let them win. She loved attending their performances and sporting events. Gail was preceded in death by her parents Edna Tarver and Tom Ben Chadwick Sr., her brother Tom Ben (Tommy) Chadwick Jr., and his wife Carol, nephew Chris Chadwick, Aunts Ethelyn, Betty and Jetta, Uncle Cary, and very special loved ones in Longview. She is survived by her husband, William H. (Bill) McMinn, daughter and son-in law, Lisa and Mark Wingate, granddaughters Elizabeth, Emily and Sarah Wingate, nephew Tom Ben (Chad) Chadwick III and wife Celeste, great nephew Chance Chadwick, great nieces Brynnan and Caroline Chadwick, and cousin Joyce Keeling. Thank you to Dr. Qureshi and his staff for their care for Gail. And, the family can't adequately express the love and admiration they have for the 4th floor staff at Medical City Plano. Through multiple hospitalizations, the team became family to Gail, Bill and Lisa due to their unwavering compassion. Services for Gail will be Tuesday, June 13, 4:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church Richardson, 503 N. Central Expressway, Richardson, Texas, 75080.
