Obituary

Megan Ashley McKay

September 6, 1998 – November 29, 2025

Megan Ashley McKay, of Rowlett, Texas, was born on September 6, 1998, in The Woodlands, Texas, and passed away on November 29, 2025, at the age of 27.

Megan was fun, had a big heart, and was the light of her family. She had a rare way of bringing warmth and joy wherever she went, sometimes delivered with some lighthearted sarcasm.

Megan was incredibly smart and driven. She graduated from high school at the top of her class and went on to attend Texas Tech University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in business. She later completed her master's degree in human resources at Texas Women's University. While at Texas Tech, Megan adopted her beloved furry best friend, Peach—a lab, husky, and pittie mix who became her constant companion and a reflection of Megan's deep love for animals.

Megan grew up in the Spring, Texas area, but after graduating from Texas Tech, she moved to Dallas to begin her career. Megan began her professional journey in Human Resources at a Dallas-area law firm, gaining invaluable experience and confidence. She later continued her career in Human Resources within the hospitality industry, where her passion for people truly continued to shine.

Megan was spunky, opinionated, and never shy about expressing her passions. She cared deeply about people and believed wholeheartedly in loving everyone—regardless of background, religion, politics, or identity. Her compassion had no conditions, and in her final act of generosity, Megan became an organ donor, giving the gift of life by donating her heart and both kidneys and saving three people. She also adored animals and was forever sending pictures of the next dog she planned to adopt—though she surprised everyone by adopting a cat named Wybie instead.

Megan is survived by many people who love her, including her parents, Richard and Lena Pickett, and Travis and Amber McKay; her siblings, Austin McKay, Nolan McKay, Jacob Pickett, Arielle Hines, Tyler Marshalek, and Travis Marshelek; grandparents Ann Simmons and Todd Kelley, Bob and Linda McKay, and Dale and Gloria Wright; the love of her life, Gage Nippert; plus countless aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Megan's light, love, and fierce kindness will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be missed beyond words and loved forever.

A memorial service honoring Megan's life will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, located at 9200 Inwood Road, Dallas, Texas 75220. A reception will follow the service.
