Obituary

Michael Loy Nichols of Dallas, Texas, age 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 3, 2025, at the T. Boone Pickens Hospice and Palliative Care Center, where he was surrounded by his wife and children.

Mike was the beloved husband of Janice Nichols, the father of Allison Nichols, Nathan and Mary Nichols, Monica Isaac, and David and Nicole Cone, and the loving Papa of Tyler, Kate, Camille, Ruby, Emma, Andrew, and Elliott.

Born December 6, 1947, in Greenville, Texas to Howard and Geneva Nichols, Mike was a proud graduate of Greenville High School, where he played trombone and served as drum major of the marching band. He continued with his musical talents at East Texas State University, where he served as drum major and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and sociology. Mike went on to earn a master's degree in theology from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University. He spent over 50 years as a United Methodist minister, serving a period of that time as a District Superintendent in the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Mike served many churches throughout the North Texas region, including Axe Memorial United Methodist Church in Garland, Texas and Wesley United Methodist Church in Greenville, Texas. While at Wesley United Methodist Church, Mike participated in numerous mission trips to Juarez, Mexico, helping to build homes with the Proyecto Abrigo organization, now known as Operación Abrigo. Most recently, Mike served as the Campus Pastor at CC Young Senior Living in Dallas, Texas, where he preached and met regularly with the residents, whom he loved dearly. Mike had a servant's heart, always looking to do good for others before himself. Throughout his more than half century of ministry, Mike touched the lives of so many through his leadership, dynamic preaching, and pastoral care.
