Wilma H. Miller went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2018. She was born March 21, 1929 in Houston, Texas to parents Edna and Sims B. Hoke. Growing up, Wilma attended Camp Waldemar during the summers and graduated from Lamar High School. She attended the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated with a B.S. Degree in Home Economics/Child Development. While at the University of Texas, Wilma was on the Cactus staff and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After graduation, she had a brief teaching career and later worked for Tennessee Gas Company. She married Ed Miller in 1953 and settled in Ft. Worth. While there, she helped establish the Theta Chapter at TCU, acting as Rush Chairman. Wilma enjoyed being a homemaker and volunteer while raising her children in both Marshall and Dallas, Texas. She was a talented seamstress whose hobbies included cross-stitching and applique. Wilma later found her passion in needlepointing. She always had a project or two in the works. She stitched at home, but loved going to a needlepoint store and stitching with friends. Wilma continued her involvement in Kappa Alpha Theta as a longtime member of the Dallas Alumnae Chapter. She served in many leadership roles and was recognized as a Twin Star recipient for her loyalty, commitment, participation and leadership in the Alumnae Chapter. Wilma was an avid Longhorn fan. She could be seen either in person at the game or in front of her TV cheering on the Longhorns during fall football season. She cheered for Longhorns in many sports but her favorite thing to see or listen to was the Longhorn Band. She especially loved the Longhorn Alumnae Band. Wilma was a foodie and enjoyed trying new and different restaurants in the cities she visited. She also enjoyed the comradery in eating out with friends at Theta Lunch Bunch, at The Women's Club luncheons, and after church. Wilma attended North Highlands Bible Church where she enjoyed the company of many friends. She adored and was proud of her grandchildren and their accomplishments. She also enjoyed stepping in as substitute grandmother and great-grandmother to her late sister's family. Wilma loved being around people, but she also loved her Yorkshire terriers throughout her life, especially her newest puppy, Bodie, who was her loyal sidekick for the past 2-1/2 years. Wilma is preceded in death by her husband, Edmund H. Miller her parents, Edna and Sims B. Hoke; and her sister, Nadine Guthrie.
