Mo Kuen
Leung
Jan 5, 1943 — Jan 29, 2026
Mo Kuen Leung, 83, of Plano, TX, passed peacefully at her home on January 29, 2026.
She was born in the Chi-Kai Village of the Chinese Guangdong Province in 1943. She was the second youngest of 5 children. In 1956, she left the village to attend school in Guangzhou. In 1962, Mo made her way to Hong Kong, where she met her husband, Hung, of nearly 58 years. They married on November 27, 1966. After having two sons, they immigrated to the United States. Settling in Florida (after discovering the New York winters were too cold), they had their daughter.
In the early years, Mo stayed home with her children and attended night school to learn English. Then, she was a waitress at her sister's restaurant before opening Golden Palace Chinese restaurant with her husband in August 1983. The local community embraced the new restaurant, in part owing to Mo's welcoming front-of-house face that would greet customers. The family shared many memories and meals there, with each working in various capacities throughout the 8-year run. In 1991, Hung and Mo decided to sell the restaurant and retire (a life of leisure and relaxation!). In retirement, she enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with family, including her siblings that lived in the Orlando area. In 2000, they decided to move to Plano, Texas, to be closer to their sons and grandchildren.
Family and friends affectionately called her "Momo." Momo showed and shared her love through food. Those fortunate to have enjoyed her cooking would be surprised to learn that she hadn't always been a good cook! As a newlywed, her husband joked about how she REALLY did not know her way around the kitchen. Over the years through trial and error, she became a wonderful home cook. She leaves a lasting legacy of the love & enjoyment of food and a wicked lucky Mahjong streak.
Mo was preceded in death by her mother, father and husband.
She is survived by her brother, three sisters, children – Chun (Leanne) Leung, Wai (Anh) Leung and Lily (Mike) Fee – and grandchildren – Austin, Nicholas, David and Kai.
