Obituary

Sidney D. Nolte, age 87, of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 30, 2015 surrounded by his family who he cherished. Sid was born on November 15, 1927 in Jefferson, Iowa to the late Chester Harrison and Macel Nolte. He was a loving husband, father, and friend who will be sorely missed by his adoring family. He greatly valued education graduating from Jefferson High School at the age of 16. He went on to graduate from Simpson College with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1948, interrupted by his service in the United States Navy. He went on to receive his Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Iowa in 1952, and his Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics from Iowa State University in 1960. Sid married the love of his life, Virginia Cooper, in 1949 and they went on to have four children. After beginning a career in Education, he moved his family to Dallas, TX in 1963 to begin a 26 year career at Texas Instruments. He loved his work in the Calculator Division and was instrumental in the creation of the hand held calculator. In his retirement he returned to the classroom at the University of Texas at Dallas as a professor of Computer Science. Sid was a 52 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Richardson. He believed that the church was the center of his family life and that "All things work together for good for those that love the Lord". His faith served as an example to his family the importance of that guiding principle in his life as he volunteered his time for many years to the missions and projects of the church. He was a longtime member of the Pathfinders Sunday School class where he frequently taught. Sid is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Nolte. He is also survived by his four children, Anne Martin and husband Dennis of Spokane WA, Jane Gonzales and husband David of Frisco, TX, Dan Nolte of Plano TX, and Bill Nolte and wife Betty of Melissa, TX. He was a proud Grandfather to eleven Grandchildren, Phillip and Karen Martin, Brice, Vance, and Lauren Gonzales, Luke, Megan, Danny, Brenna, Bailey, and Brooke Nolte, and three Great Grandchildren.
