Ocie Wayne
Skinner
Oct 12, 1942 — Nov 10, 2025
Jerry" Ocie Wayne Skinner was born on October 12, 1942, in Gilmer, Texas, to Ocie Skinner and Laurica "Bobbie" Holman. He passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, at the age of 83.
Jerry grew up in Dallas and graduated from Hamilton Park High School before continuing his education at Jarvis Christian College.
In 1966, Jerry made history as the first African American police officer in Plano, Texas—courageously breaking racial barriers and opening doors for those who would follow. Shortly after, he went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His service, strength, and unwavering commitment to his community leave an enduring legacy that will never be forgotten.
Jerry was known for his love of The Temptations. His singing, dancing, and natural ability to entertain brought enjoyment to those around him. He brought laughter and light wherever he went, with a sense of humor that could brighten anyone's day. He loved hunting, camping, had a soft spot for desserts, and never missed a chance to share a story, a smile, or a sweet treat. His joy for life and welcoming spirit made everyone feel like family.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Erica (Nathaniel) Falconer and Shaunte Green; his grandchildren, Kalyn (Darius) Brown and Jaden Gregg; his great-grandchildren, Ariah and Dalaya Brown; extended family; and many cherished friends. He is also survived by his brother Darrell Holman and his sisters Connie Skinner and Linda Hunter.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Richard Johnson and Dean Skinner; and other beloved family members who welcomed him home.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 8th at 11:00 AM at St. Luke Community UMC.
Interment will follow at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211.
Jerry will forever be remembered as a proud father and veteran, a trailblazer, and a man whose presence brought laughter, love, and light to all who had the blessing of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Jerry's memory to the American Heart Association.
