Obituary

Louella J. O'Connell, a resident of the Legacy at Willow Bend, Plano, Texas, died peacefully Monday, May 25, 2015, in her home at the age of 91, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Louella was born on February 4th, 1924 in Honey Brook, PA, the daughter of Esther E. (Cunningham) Miller and John Wilbur Miller. Louella was raised in rural Pennsylvania and Maryland on family farms; she worked on the farms as a child milking cows, tending chickens, and she loved horseback riding, especially on her favorite, Sunny Boy. She graduated from business school in 1942 and worked at the FBI in J. Edgar Hoover's tenure during World War II. After raising her children, she worked as an accountant for several small businesses and a real estate firm, and finally as an office manager for a law firm. She met the love of her life, Walter Patrick O'Connell, at the end of WWII in Washington D.C.; they married in 1948 and raised five children together in Bethesda, Maryland. She and her husband retired to Savannah, Georgia in 1983, and enjoyed playing golf there until they moved to Texas in 2006. Louella was blessed with an abundance of talent, which included playing concert cello and the piano in her youth, singing in school and church choirs, sewing, knitting, carpentry, porcelain ceramics, and oil and watercolor painting, just to name a few. Louella was generous with her time and talents, always seeking to share of herself and to aid family and friends in any way she could throughout her life. At the time of her death, Louella was a parishioner of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Plano, TX. Louella is survived by her brother, Donald Miller (Diana), her five children, Karen O'Connell, Patricia O'Connell, William O'Connell (Diane), Sheila O'Connell Cooper (Ken), and Gregory O'Connell (Linh), six grandchildren, Chris O'Connell, Carrie O'Connell, Mike O'Connell, Jennifer Scarpa, Eva OConnell, and Matthew OConnell, and a number of other relatives and close friends. A mass will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, located at 5100 Plano Parkway West, Plano, Texas 75093, on June 4th, at 1:30pm, with a brief reception immediately following the mass.
