O'REILLY, Daniel Joseph (Dan) Born September 3, 1940 Died July 30, 2016 Beloved husband, father, gramps, and friend, Dan was born in New York City, NY on September 3, 1940 to Julia Sheehan and Daniel O'Reilly. Dan married the love of his life, Patricia (Pitko) O'Reilly, March 23, 1977. He is survived by Patricia and his children, son Ken O'Reilly (spouse Adele O'Reilly), son Dan O'Reilly, and daughter Janine Angrisano (spouse Michael Angrisano), and his grandchildren, Stephanie Jo O'Reilly (spouse Sung Jo), Benjamin Reilly Angrisano, Joseph Patrick O'Reilly, Emily Anne Angrisano, and Kathryn Hope O'Reilly. He is also survived by brother-in-law Robert Robinson, sister-in-law Teddi Key and numerous nieces and nephews. Not to be forgotten, his faithful companion, Border Terrier, Radar O'Reilly. Dan proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1962 and then earned a BA from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in NYC. Dan was appointed Patrolman with the NY Police Department for one year while awaiting appointment to the NYC Fire Department. On January 4, 1964 he began his 22 year tenure with the NYC Fire Department; knitting into this brotherhood would become a defining chapter of his life. He spent his first 46 years in New York before retiring from the NYC Fire Dept. and moving to Dallas, Texas where he began a new chapter of life and career with the Texas Workforce Commission. He was thrilled to begin retirement in 2003 when he began spending his time planning and enjoying explorations and travel adventures with Patricia to points all over the world. These travels inspired a love of photography in him and he began honing and refining his photography skills in the years that followed. He was an avid ice hockey enthusiast and even played hockey with the FDNY. His only disappointment about leaving NY for Texas was that he would miss his beloved hockey. We can remember him saying, however, that it would not be long until hockey followed him from NY to Dallas. And, indeed! It was not long before the Dallas Stars appeared and he could again root for his home team. Much of his time was spent working alongside Patricia in her passion for the Japanese art of flower arrangements, Ikebana. His involvement and role in the Ikebana community grew as he too would become a member. He didn't miss a chance to help and collaborate on projects and events. His most recent pursuit was getting serious about his love of gardening. He set out to study and achieved the rank of Certified Dallas County Master Gardener in 2012. This allowed him to lead in the community and share his love and depth of knowledge on all things gardening. He most enjoyed seeing his grandchildren, nieces and nephews grow in their various interests. It was his ultimate goal to give them each the opportunity to achieve their dreams. He is preceded in death by his parents, Julia and Daniel O'Reilly, and siblings, John O'Reilly, Michael O'Reilly, Catherine Robinson, Sheila Patricia McKenna, and Susan Wiesmore.
