Patrick Glynn Obituary
Patrick Joseph Glynn,82, and longtime resident of Dallas, Texas, died on May 18, 2025 in Dallas, after a years-long battle with cancer. He was beloved by many and will be sorely missed.
He was born on March 15, 1943, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Patrick Glynn and Geraldine Cerra.
After completing his early education in Bayonne, New Jersey, Patrick attended the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. Here, he completed a BS degree in Chemistry (year?). Following a stint in the military, Patrick returned to Texas and received a law degree from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, graduating in 1973.
Patrick enlisted in the United States Army in 1966. After completing the Officers' Training course, he was deployed to Vietnam. In 1968, he was honorably discharged at the rank of First Lieutenant and received, among other commendations, the Bronze Star for his valiant service.
Upon completion of his law degree, Patrick returned to Dallas. His first job was as an attorney with the Dallas City Attorney's Office, where he worked for four years and made many lifelong friends. He continued to practice law until shortly before his death, working mostly as a solo practitioner specializing in intellectual property law.
Patrick had a profound love of music. As a high school student, he had the opportunity to perform with the Bayonne Symphony Orchestra. He went on to become a skilled jazz percussionist and enjoyed playing with other jazz musicians in Dallas and elsewhere.
Patrick liked to tell the story of how as a young teen, he would slip out of his watchful grandmother's apartment in Bayonne late at night and take the subway across the Hudson River. He would sneak into Birdland and other jazz clubs along 52nd Street to watch and learn from some of the best jazz musicians in the country. Sometimes he was more successful at these exploits than at others, but his grandmother never did catch on!
Patrick was an avid outdoorsman. Whether he was sailing on White Rock Lake in Dallas, deep-sea diving in the Caribbean or reaching the summit of some of Colorado's highest peaks, Patrick was happiest in the natural world.
He is survived by Dorothy Dickmann, his partner of many years; his cousin Gina Hamilton; her husband Jerry; and close friends John Haring and David Barrett.
His final years were spent at Vitality Living in Dallas. He was very appreciative of his many friends there including the staff who cared for him with love and kindness.
