Patrick Thomas Moran, 82, of Dallas, Texas, died peacefully at home on August 9, 2026.

Patrick was born on December 21, 1943, in Niagara Falls, New York, the third of six children of Joseph Edward Moran Sr. and Gertrude Eleanor Ward Moran. He grew up in a close-knit family in Niagara Falls, attending Sacred Heart School and graduating from Bishop Duffy High School in 1961.

Pat was active in sports and student government throughout his life. At Bishop Duffy, he served as a class officer or member of the Student Council throughout his four years and competed in football, basketball, and track. Later, at WPI, he served as president of his class, and played on the football team, serving as team co-captain in 1964. Throughout his life he remained very active, running every morning, competing in the Boston Marathon, and continuously coming up with personal athletic challenges, such as walking 50 miles on his 50th birthday.

Pat went on to Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, graduating in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. His years at WPI also gave him a circle of fraternity brothers whose friendships would endure throughout his life.

Following college, Pat served on active duty in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, including service in Vietnam. After returning home, he enrolled in graduate school at Purdue University, where he earned a master's degree in Industrial Engineering in 1969. More importantly, Purdue was where he met Harriet “Mimi” Moylan. They married on June 21, 1969, in Hammond, Indiana, beginning a marriage that would last 57 years.

Pat and Mimi built their life together first in New York and the Chicago area and later in Boxborough, Massachusetts, where they raised their two daughters, Megan and Abby. The family years were filled with school activities, sports, visits with relatives and friends, and travel. Pat was always planning adventures, from camping trips and cross-country drives to skiing, European vacations, and summer trips to Martha's Vineyard.

Professionally, Pat had a long career in information technology, education, and training during a period of remarkable change in the computer industry. He began his career with IBM in 1969, working in Kingston, New York, and Chicago. In 1976, he joined Digital Equipment Corporation, where he remained for nearly 18 years in Massachusetts. He later worked for Chase Manhattan Bank, where he remained until retirement. Pat also earned a Master of Education degree from Boston University in 1989 while in the midst of his career.

Eventually, however, family offered Pat a role he valued even more. Beginning in 2010, he spent extended periods in Dallas helping Megan with her young family. Looking back on that period, Pat wrote that the time he spent with Megan and his grandsons were among the happiest of his life. He and Mimi ultimately moved to Dallas in 2013, allowing them to be close to Megan and her family.

Pat also delighted in visits with Abby, her husband Zeb, and their son Wesley in Reno, Nevada. His three grandsons, Henry, Truman, and Wesley, were an enormous source of pride and happiness to him. He followed their lives closely and treasured the time he was able to spend with them.

Family was a constant throughout Pat's life. He remained close to his siblings and extended family, traveled regularly for family gatherings, and maintained friendships that stretched back to childhood. He was also someone who seemed to make friends wherever he went. Pat was charming, outgoing, curious about people, and easy to talk to. Friends and family will remember his warmth and his bright smile.

Pat is survived by his wife of 57 years, Harriet “Mimi” Moran of Dallas; his daughters, Megan Sun and her husband, YJ, of Dallas, and Abby Hogan and her husband, Zeb, of Reno, Nevada; his beloved grandsons, Henry Sun and Truman Sun of Dallas and Wesley Walker Hogan of Reno; and his surviving siblings, Mary, Daniel, and Timothy Moran.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph Edward Moran Jr. and Michael John Moran.

Pat's life took him from Niagara Falls to Vietnam, Purdue, Chicago, Massachusetts, and finally Dallas, with many journeys in between. The thread running through those years was always family, friendship, curiosity, and an enduring enjoyment of the people around him. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, and a loyal friend.

A celebration of Patrick’s life will be held at a later date, with details to be announced once arrangements have been made.
