Obituary

Calvin was born in Crofton, Kentucky on November 6, 1914. He is preceded in death by his son, Calvin "Bart" Pendley, Jr.. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Olive Caroline Fortner Pendley; sister Lorella Pendley Schauf; daughter Sarah Pendley Scharnberg Anderson and husband Steve; daughter Betty Jo Kitts and husband Crawford; daughter-in-law Marie Pendley; grandchildren Bart Anthony Pendley, Dean Pendley, Tina Pendley, Gina Pendley Hovanscek, Donna Brightup Bridges and Dale Brightup; great grandchildren Melissa Pendley, Kristen Pendley Flora, Tony Reichert, Tonya Mentori, Isabella Hovanscek, Natalia Hovanscek, Savannah Bridges, Shiloh Bridges, Jeremiah Brightup and Robert Brightup; and great great grandson Bronson Flora. An enthusiastic musician, he taught himself to play the ukulele, guitar, banjo, bass guitar and harmonica. He was a talented artisan, who carved and painted a large collection of birds and animals. In addition, he could fix just about any household appliance, large or small. A veteran of World War II, Calvin served on a destroyer in the Navy and was involved in the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the largest naval battle in that war.
