Obituary

Irving, Texas (originally Bangor, Wisconsin) - Eugene Lyle Pickering (Geno) of Irving, Texas passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family at the age of 83, on January 5, 2020, after a fierce two-year+ battle against Lewy Body Dementia. Geno was born in Galesville, WI on December 5, 1936, the son of Lyle and Olga (Wendland) Pickering. Geno attended Bangor Wisconsin High School and married Barbara Johnson-Pickering-Bertrand in 1955; they had five children together and later divorced. Geno later married Lilia Camargo Pickering on November 8, 1984, and they resided together in Irving Texas for the last 34 years. Geno is survived by his wife Lilia Pickering of Irving , Texas; his five children, Kathy (Doug) Peterson of Bangor, WI; Tim Pickering of Bangor, WI; Robin (Bruce) Hansen of Holmen, WI; Joe Pickering of Bangor, WI; and Todd (Emily) Pickering of Burlington, KY; three brothers Ken (Pat) Pickering of Boscobel, WI; Cal (Marcia) Pickering of Tomah, WI; David (Wanda) Pickering of Bangor, WI; and three sisters, Joyce (Dick) Osuski of Cashton, WI; Doris Wehrs of West Salem, WI; Evie (Dean) Roberts of Lake Mills, WI; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his triplet siblings, Rosemary, Rosella, and Roger Pickering, his parents, and his first wife Barbara (Johnson-Pickering) Bertrand. Geno loved his family fiercely, and he was a hard-working man with a strong work ethic. He started working at a young age delivering newspapers in his Bangor community, and then worked at the local grocery store. Geno's work transitioned into the meat broker business which started in Wisconsin, then led him to Nebraska where he met his now widowed wife Lilia, and together they followed his career with a move to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas. He spent 33 years working as a meat broker with Paty Meat, while cultivating long and lasting friendships with his co-workers and the Paty family. Geno was known for his fun-loving, magnetic, and gregarious personality which was often described as "Bigger-Than-Life"; his mischievous sense of humor; true to his word; and the kind of guy who never met a stranger. He will be fondly and lovingly missed, but his memories will live in our hearts forever. Until we meet again, sweet man, fly high . . . you finally hit that big jackpot you've been chasing.
