Lorene Bond Prewitt, 90, retired Bradfield Elementary, Highland Park ISD teacher passed away August 25, 2013 at the Villages of Lake Highlands. Born in Columbus, Indiana, Lorene moved to Dallas in 1946 as a young bride to follow her husband Bob to SMU. Early in their marriage, Lorene loved their role as SMU house parents living in the Athletic dorm. Lorene pursued a teaching degree at SMU and graduated in 1962. Lorene loved teaching and was often heard to tell others in a whisper "she would pay them to let her teach." It gave her great joy to follow the success of her students. Lorene completed her Masters in Education in 1970. She was an active member of the SMU Women's Club, the SMU Alumni Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Jane Douglas Chapter of DAR and Eastern Star. She was an active member of the 22 Class of Highland Park United Methodist Church. The friendships made in this class have lasted a lifetime and the family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to these friends who have meant so much over the years. Lorene always enjoyed traveling often joking that she could be packed in 10 minutes if you said the word "go'. She loved exploring new places, and especially enjoyed sites that were rich in history eventually visiting all 50 states. Lorene is survived by her husband 67 years, Robert I. Prewitt; daughter Cathy Manor and husband Bill of Garland, Texas; daughter, Patricia Prewitt of Franklin, Massachusetts. Grandchildren Rob Manor and wife Katie of Dallas, Doug Manor and wife Lara, of Dallas; Beth, Kath, and Joe Bukis of Franklin, Massachusetts. One great-grandson, Will Manor. Sister-in-law, Lois Prewitt of Columbus, Indiana, Niece, Lori MacNeill and family of Austin, Texas, and extended family. Services at Cox Chapel, Highland Park Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane Dallas 75205, Friday, August 30, 2013 at 10:00 AM. Private burial will be in Columbus, Indiana at a later date.
