Neville Eugene "Sarge" Purgerson, 81, of Greenville, passed away on Jan. 12, 2017. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Kavanaugh United Methodist Church in Greenville, with Pastor John Kay officiating. Reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Neville was born in Bryan, to Malcom and Corinne Purgerson on July 29, 1935. He attended Stephen F. Austin High School. He married Betty Huebel in Dec. 1962, in La Grange. Neville attended Texas A&M University and graduated from East Texas State University with a degree in criminal justice. He was a Texas Department Public Safety Officer for 36 years and retired as sergeant in 1995. He was a member of the Masons for over 50 years and served as Master Mason at the Layfette Lodge. Neville was involved in his church and community. He enjoyed country dancing, camping, riding his motorcycle and meeting his buddies for coffee and lunch. Neville was preceded in death by his parents, Malcom and Corinne Purgerson and former wife, Betty Purgerson. He is survived by his sister, Linda Thomas; daughter, Robin Ray and spouse, Brent Rowden; son, Bryon Purgerson and spouse, Tabiatha; and three grandchildren, Zachery, Rachael and Mason.
