Obituary

Ralph A. Linares "Rafa" passed away in his home on November 23, 2025. He was surrounded by the love of friends and family throughout his journey with brain cancer.

Born in Galveston on August 21, 1941, to Rafael and Elisa Linares, Ralph earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from UT Austin. He worked at several architectural firms in Texas and Louisiana, where he designed many buildings throughout the US and Mexico. Ralph mentored young architects throughout his career and made many lifelong friends along the way. He appreciated the beauty in small details, and Ralph had a deep passion for drawing. After retirement, he became a skilled and prolific watercolor artist.

Ralph loved to grow life. He had a green thumb, and his home was constantly awash in the verdant lushness of tropical plants. He always had a deep and compassionate connection with animals. As a child, Ralph enjoyed caring for beloved family pets and working with the livestock on a nearby farm. In his later years, he and his dog walks were renown around the area, and he was loved by neighborhood kids and adults alike.

The man never met a stranger, and he truly loved to laugh.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 22 years, Karen. His son, Andrew Linares, and daughter Stephanie (Paul) Denning, are both of Denver. His brothers Manny (Nancy) and Michael Linares of Austin. Sister-in-Law Bonny Linares of St. Maarten. Brother-in-Laws Kevin (Libby) and Gary Hunter. Nephews and nieces Tracy (Paul) Kuper, Mick (Julia) Linares, Elissa (Jeremy) Sexton, Ben (Lindsey) Hunter, Daniel (Malori) Hunter, Will Hunter. Grandchildren Will and Quincey Denning. Many great nephews and nieces: Stuart, Jamie, Fancher, Lake, Lucas, Christian, and Vincent.

A Celebration of Ralph's Life will be held in the Spring of 2026 in Austin, Texas.
