Renate L. Thomas (nee van Hülst) 90, of Carrollton, TX passed away on December 7th at her home after a long illness. She was born in Bremen, Germany, the eldest of nine. She is preceded in death by her parents Laurenz and Pauline Marie Anna (Jobke) van Hülst, her sister, Ursel Blanche, and her husband of 54 years, O.V. Thomas of Mineola, TX. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas spent 13 years delivering Meals on Wheels for Wood County, and after his death Mrs. Thomas continued on her own. She taught English as a second language and was very involved in charitable activities. She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Karl Heinz van Hülst, Helmut van Hülst, Laurens van Hülst, Karin Irmschler, Hans Jürgen van Hülst, Dieter van Hülst, and Udo van Hülst, her children, Ronald Thomas, Dita Shenk, and Sheila Swenholt. She has three grandchildren, Jacob and Justin Shenk, and Kristin Swenholt, and two great-granddaughters, McKenzie and Kayden. A memorial service will be held at Gateway Funeral home in Dallas. Later she will be interred with her husband at DFW National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the Humane Society of N. Texas, Meals on Wheels, or the Air Force Aid Campaign.
