Obituary

John Walter Rentmeester, age 82, died in Richardson, TX, on June 12, 2019. He was born on June 22, 1936, in Manitowoc, WI, and grew up on his parents farm in Plymouth, WI. He was the oldest of three boys followed by James and Ray. Following high school, John joined the Marines and was stationed for 3 years in Santa Anna, CA. Upon his discharge at age 24, he returned to Milwaukee, WI where he worked while attending school for Data Processing. He met June Luebner, a Physical Education major, prior to his enlistment in the Marine Corps. On June 1, 1961 they both called in sick and drove to Harvard, IL to marry at the Justice of the Peace. John was hired by Mobil Oil in the Data Processing department. John was transferred to Mobil's Dallas office in 1974. He and June lived in Richardson on Marquette Dr. for over 40 years. John struggled with his weight throughout his life. At age 43 he had bariatric surgery and lost 200 pounds. He ran over 100 5K and 10K races. John retired in 1992. His greatest hobby through the years was playing the stock market. In his retirement, John volunteered through the American Cancer Society to drive patients to chemo and doctor visits. He also delivered hundreds of yard signs for his political friends. He and June spent many years traveling abroad. Their favorite means of travel was on cruise ships. They visited every continent and crossed the International Dateline multiple times. John especially loved his visits to Asia and made friends all over the world. Survivors include June, his wife of 58 years, and his brother Ray. He is further survived by six nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Genevieve Stankunas Rentmeester, and brother James. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on August 14 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 9807 Church Rd., Dallas, TX. A luncheon will follow the service. Everyone is encouraged to come visit with the family at that time. Committal will be held prior to the memorial service at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. If you wish to give a memorial in John's name, please send to the charity of your choice.
