Obituary

Born in Los Angeles June 11, 1930, Dick's early childhood was spent in Big Spring, Texas while his father attended chiropractic college. The Kennedys moved to Longview where his father set up practice and he grew up with his brother Harvey and sister Jodie, who both preceded him in death. Dick graduated from high school at 16 and then attended Kilgore College. In 1948 he went into the Army, "to see the world." He served in the US Army Heavy Battalions Unit in Germany and attended OCS, becoming a First Lieutenant. He returned to Longview to work in insurance and appraisals where he was appointed the Gregg County VA-FHA Appraiser by Texas State Senator Ray Roberts. Dick moved to Dallas in 1972 to pursue a long and successful career in real estate managing offices for Ebby Halliday and Murray Realtors. In 1994, he and his wife Gail returned to Ebby Halliday and created a hugely successful real estate team, enjoying the honor of being named Ebby's top company-wide producer twice. Dick and Gail traveled extensively in Europe visiting France, Italy, Prague, Vienna, Athens, Madrid and Barcelona. Monte Carlo and the Greek Isles were great favorites. He loved Hawaii and met longtime friends, Elke and Don McCoy, there for New Year's Eve for years. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Gail Kennedy and her two children Amy Yates and Brandy Langston, his step daughters, who were a great joy to him. He is also survived by his first wife Pauline Kennedy and their three daughters Patty Thomas, Cheryl Kilmah, and his oldest daughter Debby Lasater who was a great comfort to him at the end of his life. Sons-in-law David Yates, Wade Langston, Tommy Lasater, Bill Thomas, and John Klimah, and sister-in-law Linda Kennedy, will also miss him dearly. Dick is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews: Harold and Sherrie Johnson, Cindy and Keith Romere, Scott and Sharon Johnson, Cathy and Kyle Barrett, Jennifer Esquenazi, Gloria Deschaine, and Steven, Susan and Elizabeth Kennedy. Dick loved flying his plane, "Baby Bird," and being the world's most dapper and gracious host to friends and family. He especially loved his many grandchildren: Katie Yates Isett, Alden Yates, Glennon and William Langston, Andrea Lasater Rivers, Bryan Lasater, Dr. Krystin Thomas, Blake Thomas, Karl Kilmah, Scott Klimah, and great-grandchildren Ruby Rivers, Luke Lasater Sutton Ryder, and Tinsley Thomas. With him on the day he died, May 5, 2023, were his wife Gail, daughters Debby, Amy and Brandy, grandson Alden and son-in-law David. We will miss him forever. He was loved.
