Richard Floyd "Butch" Smith was born June 12, 1943 in Portland, OR to Roy Willard Smith and Geraldine Sandlin Smith. After the war, the family moved to Hacket, AR, where he attended school, graduating from Greenwood High School in 1961. He attended the University of Arkansas, obtaining a marketing degree in 1964. A lifelong Hogs fan, he often loudly encouraged the coaches on television on how to properly do their jobs.

After graduation, he moved to Oklahoma City to work for Mobile Oil, which began a career with a variety of organizations, eventually landing in Dallas, Texas. In 1970, he celebrated the birth of his only son, Richard Christopher Smith. He began working for Eagle Honda, where he learned he excelled at sales, and shifted from marketing into the world of stocks and bonds. Starting at Paine Webber in 1987, he continued to work hard and in 1999, started his own successful firm, working alongside his son until he "retired" in December 2023.

In 1989, he met Patrice "Patti" Parish, his long-term companion whom he married in 2016. Together, they shared many adventures, including a love of the ocean, sailing, all over the Caribbean.

He loved island life and was well known on Ambergris Caye. Those who knew Richard know that he loved Jack Daniels, smoking, was an avid gun collector and voracious reader. He was always the life of the party, wherever he went.

Richard passed from this world on Saturday, April 13th, after battling a long illness. He is survived by wife Patti Smith, son Chris Smith and daughter-in-law, Mary Ellen Smith.

A Remembrance of Richard's life is scheduled for May 11th from 2-4 p.m. at the home of Chris and Mary Ellen Smith - 13122 Hillcrest Rd., Dallas, Texas 75240. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
