Richard "Rich" Cormac Waldron passed away on September 23, 2023 in Dallas TX after many years of declining health. He was 73. Born in Philadelphia PA, Rich attended Immaculate Conception School and Bishop McDevitt High School in the Philadelphia area. He then moved to Texas to attend the University of Dallas in Irving, earning a BA in Drama, then later earning an MFA in Theatre Design at the Dallas Theater Center through Trinity University.
Rich loved theater, especially musicals, from an early age, and began working backstage at professional summer shows at the age of 15. In the 1970's he designed lighting for many shows at UD, and for some small shows at DTC.
In the 80's he started his own business, Waldron Design, where he designed sets and lights and coordinated productions for Dallas Market Center, Kim Dawson Agency, La Fiesta, DIFFA, DCCC, and Callier Theater of the Deaf among others.
Rich cherished his family, friends, and pets most of all, especially enjoying pool parties and holiday get-togethers. He loved visiting Taos and the Rocky Mountains, going to plays, reading, listening to music, growing orchids, and herbs, and was a chef extraordinaire, creating recipes in all types of cuisines, but finding most joy in baking.
He is preceded in death by his parents Evanne Brady Waldron and Richard Carroll Waldron, brothers John and Jim (Phyllis), and sister Joan Waldron. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Cynthia, beloved daughter Alexandra "Alex" Waldron of Dallas, and brother Kevin (Jeanne) Waldron of Croton PA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 23rd at 11am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 6306 Kenwood Avenue, Dallas TX 75214, with visitation preceding at 10:30 am. Memorial donations may be made to the Dallas Humane Society, Dallas Theater Center or DIFFA.
