Obituary

Robert Terris John East (Rob), age 38, passed away on Saturday, September 23rd at the Dallas Veterans Affairs Hospital after a brief illness surrounded by his family and friends. Rob was born November 26, 1984, in San Diego, CA and grew up in McKinney, TX and Seattle, WA where he graduated from Ballard High School in 2003. Rob was a medic in the US Army, 4th Infantry based in Fort Hood, TX from 2003 to 2012, there he reach the rank of Sargent. While on active duty he served in two tours in Iraq. Rob earned several medals and honors: The Iraq Campaign Medal with three campaign stars, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation medal (2nd award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and others. After the Army, Rob graduated from Massey University in Auckland, New Zealand with a Bachelor of Business Studies with a major in Marketing in February 2015. After returning to the States Rob worked at HPE in Government Sales. Rob was an avid sports fan playing soccer in his youth as well as cheering on FC Dallas, the Dallas Cowboys, and Dallas Stars. Rob is survived by his mother Sally Fowler and her husband Craig of McKinney, his father, Terry East and his wife Anne of Woodland, CA, his son Collin East of Auckland, NZ, step-son Zane Campbell of Auckland, NZ, and his sisters Nicole East of Plano, TX, Tanya East of Prosper, TX, Sarah Roby of McKinney, TX, Jordan Asman (Jeff) of Los Angeles, CA, Meg Marrow of Colorado Springs, CO and Nicole Polestra of Taos, NM, his brothers Brent Roby of McKinney, TX, Peter Fowler of Tucson, AZ, his nieces and nephews Kate East-Murray, Theodore East, Marc Roby, Zeke Roby, his Grandmothers Elizabeth Vogel of San Diego, CA and Marylou Mather of San Antonio, TX, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his Grandfathers Oscar John Vogel Jr and Bobby Matterson East both of San Diego, CA. A memorial will be held on Thursday September 28, 2023, at 2:00pm, St Peters Episcopal Church in McKinney, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to WarfighterOverwatch.com, in Rob's honor.
