Rodney Allen Collins
February 16, 1950 – September 24, 2024
Rodney Allen Collins passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, in Dallas, TX at the age of 74.
He was born in the deep south in Tuscumbia, Alabama to parents, Hobson and Merle Collins. As his father, Hob, was in the Air Force, Rod and his brother, Steve, lived in England, Hawaii and Japan with the family finally settling in Abilene, TX.
Rod always had the need for speed – beginning with a motorcycle in high school. Upon high school graduation he wanted to attend the Air Force Academy with hopes of becoming an astronaut – wanted to blast past Alpha Centauri! Unfortunately, that desire was not to be. Yet, he carried that "go fast craving" on with his love of boating, motorcycle riding and fast red cars.
Rod was also an accomplished musician and vocalist, tenor. The most beautiful tenor voice! Voice of an angel. His cousin Billy recalls how much they enjoyed the Music Hall of Fame in Muscle Shoals, AL where they saw performances of greats like Lynyrd Skynyrd and Linda Ronstadt. He performed in opera as well as musicals in high school and at Trinity University in San Antonio and was a member of the choir at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church in Dallas.
Rod was an avid reader, loved music – classical, rock, jazz/blues; Sports - baseball "Go Rangers!"; college football "Hook 'Em Horns" and "Roll Tide"; Food - a really rare steak and angel pie!
Rod left San Antonio to pursue a career in accounting with a partner in Dallas, TX. He eventually moved on to work for other corporations in the Dallas area.
Rod met the love of his life in 1986 and soon after she proposed to him! Fortunately for her, he said yes! They married on May 9, 1987.
The other loves of his life – God, AA and his family. Without AA he would not have been able to live to enjoy his family, adored grandchildren, Harper and Owen, and many friends; his faithful dogs Boomer, Mollie and Riley.
Pre-deceased by his parents, Hob and Merle; brother, Steve, Rod leaves behind his wife, Tricia; son, Cory and wife, Meredith, and children, Harper & Owen; Sister-in-law and brother-in-law - Terri & Michael Sullivan; Sister-in-law, Terri Collins and niece, Stephanie, and close relatives in Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. The family will be having a private service at a later date.
