On Wednesday, June 16, 2021, surrounded by family in prayer, Sergio I. Rubio, 84, of Cedar Hill, Texas passed from this world to join his Divine Master's House. Sergio was born in Arequipa, Peru to Gilda Aguilar and Juan Rubio. In his early teens Sergio became part of his mother's new family and bonded with Humberto Alvarez as his father. The family immigrated first to Venezuela and then to the United States in 1959. Sergio was fiercely loyal to family and cherished his time in the family environments of his parents' and sisters' homes in California and Texas. Sergio devoted himself to being of service to anyone in need. His desire to serve others unconditionally was surpassed only by his humble and respectful attitude toward all. One of the ways Sergio most loved serving was aiding in transport - of his sisters to university, of his mother to her appointments, of anyone in his care to ensure their needs were met. He learned to drive at an early age and was king of the road in rural America or the congested highways in Los Angeles and Dallas. Sergio worked as a translator and had impeccable Spanish and the finest academic English. He enjoyed a well-made cup of Earl Gray tea, a McDonald's fish sandwich, and a good laugh with family. He loved to learn, enjoying dictionaries, libraries, music, internet searches, and YouTube. Sergio's absence leaves a void behind in his sisters, Gilda Alvarez Evans (Marc) and Florcita Alvarez-Galoosian (Roobik), his niece Marcela Evans Cunningham (Marcus) and his nephew Gabriel Evans (Lyberti) and their extended families. He was preceded in death by his father, stepfather and mother as well as an older brother, Gustavo Juan Rubio and a sister Maria Haydee Alvarez.

Services: Friday, June 25, 2021, 11AM Rosary and 11:30 AM Mass Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Duncanville.

Inurnment of ashes will be at the Wheatland Cemetery 7950 Hampton Road immediately following Mass. Sergio's generous spirit had no bounds. He cared for the most vulnerable in society, and especially for people who he thought might not have anyone to care for them. In this spirit, in lieu of flowers he would want donations to go to the Diocese of Dallas for medical costs of retired priests, or to UT Southwestern to offset the medical costs of people unable to afford their necessary care.
