Obituary

Adelaide Porth Rusch (6/26/30 - 1/20/15) Adelaide Porth Rusch passed away suddenly, unexpectedly and peacefully in her sleep on January 20, 2015. She was born in 1930 to Ambrose Porth and Florence Corbiel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She attended Milwaukee-Downer College, now Lawrence University, and studied art. When she married John Rusch in 1953, she became a Navy wife and traveled the Eastern US, as well as Trinidad, Puerto Rico and Iceland. She was a gifted artist, and focused most of her career encouraging others to develop their own talent and discover the value of art in their lives. Adelaide touched the lives of many as the art teacher at the Woodlawn Program in Arlington, VA, and following the death of her husband in 1980, at various schools in Morgantown, WV. She was active in the arts community in WV until her move to Dallas in 2013. She had a unique sense of the aesthetic and an ability to create spaces of beauty and balance wherever she was. She was actively renewing her calligraphy skills as her latest project, and still teaching art to her neighbors in the Juliet Fowler community where she lived. She was preceded in death by her parents, and by her siblings Yvonne Porth, Tom Porth and Toni Wilbert. She is survived by her children Susan Schuerger, Chris Rusch and Karen Rusch, and seven grand-children. Honoring Adelaide's wishes, there will be no memorial service. The family will continue to support art education, and welcome you to join them in that effort in your community wherever you are. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ArtEd Fund, which will make funds available to educators in the Woodrow Wilson High School feeder pattern public schools. Go to the donations page at www.WoodrowFoundation.org and select the ArtEd Fund. Arrangements under the care of: Aria Funeral Home 10116 E Northwest Highway Dallas, TX 75238 214-340-8008
