Shaaron Salyer-Fulkerson, 81, of Dallas, Texas, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 17, 2019, after a long battle with Alzheimers disease. She was a devoted wife, mother, psychotherapist, naturalist, and life-long student in the pursuit of knowledge and learning. Shaaron was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, to the late Herbert Alexander and Mary Agnes Steeby. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Jacqueline "Jackie" OConnor and Jean Beverage. She is survived by her husband, John "Johnny" Fulkerson of Dallas; son, Ken Salyer, Jr. (Tricia) of Dallas; daughter, Leigh Green (Hart) of Beaumont; Gary Fulkerson (Lisa) of Bend, Oregon; Maggie Giust (Steph) of San Antonio; grandchildren, Ken Salyer Ill (Elisha), Ashley Salyer, Thomas Salyer, Hart "Seis" Green VI, Everett Green, Adelle Green, Miles Fulkerson, Max Fulkerson, Chance Fulkerson, Madeline Pieper, and Gwendolyn Giust, who all affectionately referred to her as Mimi. Shaaron grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, and graduated from Wyandotte High School before attending the University of Kansas. She joined the Alpha Chi Omega sorority in 1955 and became a lifelong Kansas Basketball fan. While participating actively in the Junior League of Dallas, she became the head docent at the Dallas Museum of Natural History, which reignited her passion for learning, giving her the impetus to return to college in 1972 to complete her undergraduate degree. In 1976, she completed her BA from The University of North Texas, graduating Summa Cum Laude, and then earned her MSSW in 1980 from The University of Texas at Arlington and qualified for self-practice by ACSW in 1982. She pursued learning throughout her life, participating in fossil digs with the Dallas Museum of Natural History, mastering Spanish, and traveling with her husband and the Friendship Force Dallas to Cuba, Colombia, Chile, and Peru. Her favorite places were Estes Park, Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday March 23, 2019 at 10 am Highland Park United Methodist Church 3300 Mockingbird Ln, Dallas, TX 75205.
