Sam Thigpen, age 64, of Irving, Texas passed away on November 29th, 2024.

Born on October 26th, 1960, in San Angelo, TX, Sam was the son of the late Truett "Sam" Thigpen and Virginia "Sue" McEver. He graduated from Central High in San Angelo, TX in 1979. Sam married Sheryl Mace on June 21st, 1980, and moved his family to the DFW metroplex in 1988.

Sam was an Optician by trade, working in the Optical industry for over 40 years. For hobbies, he was an avid fisherman. But Sam's true passion was service to others in ministry, and he found a home for that love at Living Word Church in Irving, TX where he served in a variety of roles for more than 30 years, including Principal of Living Word Christian School for many years.

On the day preceding his death, Sam was doing what he loved most, serving others on Thanksgiving Day by preparing and serving the regular Thursday meal for the "Be Our Guest" ministry at Living Word.

Sam is survived by his wife, Sheryl; his son, Jared (Bethany) of Grapevine, TX; his grandchildren, Hannah, Caleb, and Eli; his four sisters, Sanda Counts (Wayne) of San Angelo, TX; Sharon Rose (Jim) of Mertzon, TX; Sherri James (Ricky) of Junction, TX; Shirley Hasty (Mark) of San Angelo, TX; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, January 18th, 2025 at 4pm, and will be held at Living Word Church, 2833 W. Shady Grove Rd., Irving, TX 75060.
