Obituary

Sandra Taylor Mize, 69, passed away on Dec. 27, 2025. She was born on March 8, 1956, in Borger, Texas. A fiercely independent, funny, and kind woman, Sandra focused on her family, always wanting the very best for them.

She was the beloved wife of husband Gary; the loving mother of sons Jay, Cory, and Travis; and the devoted grandmother of Alexis, Keira, and Lyla, who were a constant source of joy in her life.

Sandra grew up in the Texas Panhandle, primarily living in Amarillo before moving to Lubbock, where she met the love of her life, Gary. They both graduated from Monterey High School in 1974 and married three years later in 1977.

The couple eventually made their home in Garland, Texas, where Sandra created a loving and supportive environment for many neighborhood children at her in-home daycare while her three boys were still in school. After her children were older, she had a second career working at several elementary schools before retiring in 2021.

Sandra is survived by her mother, Marilyn Taylor; son Jay Mize, his wife Mindy, and their daughters Alexis and Keira; son Cory Mize and his daughter Lyla; brother-in-law Rick Mize; sister-in-law Debbie Ellison and her husband Tony; brother Tim Taylor; and brother Mike Herron and his wife Sarah.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; youngest son, Travis; mother-in-law, Jean; father-in-law, Ray; father Dearil; sisters Wanda, Debbie, and Sheri; and brother Floyd.

A devoted cat mom to the very end, it should come as no surprise that in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent in honor of Sandra's memory to Feral Friends Community Cat Alliance in Richardson, Texas, at feralfriends.org/donate.
