Obituary

James Wilbur Sasser, 76, died on March 10, 2014, in Dallas. James was healthy and active up until the time of his death, playing 18 holes of golf with his son just two days before he died in his home. A small family gathering was held on March 16 at his daughter's house in Dallas. James was born on Oct. 16, 1937, to Grady Sasser and Lois Smith in Miami. He grew up in Savannah and graduated from Savannah High School at age 16. He had a long career as a chemist and owned his own company, Quantum Scientific. As the oldest of five kids, James helped raise his younger brothers and sisters. He spent most of his life in Georgia, South Carolina and Texas, where he returned three years ago to be closer to his five kids. James regularly attended Watermark Community Church in Dallas and had spent a lot of time with his kids and grandkids since returning to Dallas. He loved playing golf, courting women, wearing expensive shoes and traveling the world. He also dearly loved his dog, Studley. James is survived by his five children; Stephanie Sasser, Joni Sasser Mayo, Jeffrey Sasser, Tanya Sasser Rutledge and Sean Sasser, as well as seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Jeff Sasser and wife Brenda and Alan Sasser and wife Virginia, and a sister, Harriet Strwora and husband Pete. A memorial service will be held at the Bethesda Boys Home for Boys (Bethesda Academy) in Savannah at 10:30 a.m. on April 26.
