Regina Ann Scarry - or Jean as she was known to her family and friends, passed away Saturday, June 3rd on her 82nd birthday! She left this world peacefully holding hands with her husband, Robert L. Scarry, of 58 years. Robert (Bob) was always by her side but never more so than these last few years. We are comforted to know Jean is in Heaven with her parents Fred and Hannah Van Deventer, her brothers Fred Van Deventer, Jack McGowan and wife Virginia, Jimmy McGowan and wife Betty, and sister Mary McGowan Gast and husband Frankie. Jean was born in Aurora, IL and grew up in Oswego. She and Bob were married in 1959 and lived in Oswego; Kansas, Missouri, and Kentucky, before moving to Tennessee. Bob and Jean lived in Nashville, where she worked at Vanderbilt University. They moved to Lakeland, FL where Jean helped Bob with their business. They retired and moved to Frisco, TX to be close to family. Thus fulfilling Jean's dream of being a Texan! Jean loved traveling the world with her family and was always ready for an adventure. Maybe that all started in the 50s with a cross country trip in a convertible (the story goes that it was a baby blue 1956 Chevy Bel Air) with her high school friend Pat Smith. As her life progressed, the travel bug blossomed into trips throughout the US including Hawaii, several cruises as well as England, Wales, Scotland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland, and Spain. And although she enjoyed all of her trips, Jean - who is of Irish descent, often talked about a trip to Ireland that made her feel like she had found home. Besides her golf cart, Jean's greatest love and a huge source of joy was her family. She will be missed by her husband Robert, daughters Wendy Ann Joyce and husband Timothy of Plano, TX, Susan Makanani and husband Gary of Richardson, TX, and son's Captain Thomas P. Scarry, USN and wife Sabrina of Washington, D.C., and John R. Scarry and wife Renee of Lakeland, FL. Besides being a great wife and the best Momma in the world she was also a beloved Beeba (Grandma) to Kelly Ann Joyce, Kori Joyce Eppink and husband Jordon, Kyle Joyce, Katie Makanani, Lauren Scarry, Olivia Scarry, Madison Scarry, Dakota RamaSanto, Robbie RamaSanto, and Chris Ruhland. She especially enjoyed spending time with and hearing stories about her great grandson Noah Eppink. Jean was anticipating the arrival of her first great granddaughter - Norah Eppink, who arrives later this year. Norah will know about her great Beeba (grandma)! At Regina's request, no services will be held. Instead the family will honor her request and take her to the Painted Desert in Arizona for a private celebration. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Kidney fund, www.kidneyfund.org. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Davita on Preston Road and Tennyson in Plano, TX, Rose and Anthony at Victoria Gardens Frisco, Shirley, Vicky, and Patricia with the Pastoral staff and the many nurses who provided care and love at Baylor Plano Medical Center.
