Karl B. Schabel died peacefully in his Frisco, Texas home on September 25, 2017. He lived 80 great years. Karl was born on February 18, 1937 in Rochester, NY. He graduated from West Irondequoit High School (1955) and Clarkson University (1962). He was a member of the New York Air National Guard and participated in many civic and social organizations with a passion for service and friendship. While living in Syracuse, NY, and at Otisco Lake, he enjoyed golf and lake activities. He retired from Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. at age 59 due to multiple sclerosis. He moved to New Bern, NC, then Naples, FL and eventually to Frisco, TX to be near family. Karl is survived by Carole Schabel, his wife of 53 years. Karl said of his bride, "Her inspiration and support made my life happier than I ever dreamed." Also surviving are their sons, Edward and wife Molly (Frisco, TX), and Steven and wife Brenda (Landing, NJ), three grandchildren, Darby, Max and Luke, and brother in law, Glenn Meade (Phil and Doug). Karl was predeceased by his sister, Betty S. Meade, and his parents, Max and Frieda Schabel. Memorial services will be held in Pittsford, NY at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 28 at Whitehaven Memorial Park Chapel located at 210 Marsh Road, Pittsford, New York 14534. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
